Benikyū Japanese Sweets

One of Itoigawa’s Oldest Confectioneries, Founded in 1825

Benikyū makes sweets unique to Itoigawa, where they take pride not only in their flavor, but in the smiles they bring to their customers’ faces! You can enjoy their sweets on special occasions or when relaxing with family and friends.

They have been working hard for nearly 200 years to bring joy and smiles to their customers’ lives through their sweets, such as their most famous product, Yama-no-Homare. First sold in 1935, Yama-no-Homare stands for “Glory of the Mountains”, and it was given its name by famous local poet and scholar Souma Gyofu, who was a close friend of the 3rd generation owner. It is a type of castella-styled cookie, where many locals assisted in its creation, making it an authentic Itoigawa creation!

Their shop also has English menus and labels, they’re looking forward to seeing you in Itoigawa!
